(HT 0-0)

Alcester RFC
Burbage 5 - 38 Alcester

The first game of the New Year saw Alcester continue in similar fashion to the end of last year - in winning style - as the red and blacks remained top of the league as they secured a 38-5 victory over Burbage.

After missing two games before Christmas that were cancelled due to the frosty weather, plus the festive break,  Alcester didn't look out of practice as Mark Burrell made things look easy by running in a try within the opening minute. The conversion was missed, but Alcester still took an early 5-0 lead.
Despite the wet and boggy conditions, Alcester continued to dominate on the field. A neat lineout turned into a driving maul before Ed Gough carried the ball over the line under the posts making for an easy conversion for Tom Burgess.

Burbage fought hard, and were showing grit and determination, but Alcester's defense held strong. In attack, Gough drew in the defense and was able to set captain, Will Silk free to dive over the line for Alcester's third try of the half.
Just before half time, the heavens opened and the rain from earlier in the day returned. The score stood at 19-0 in Alcester's favor as the teams opted for a brief half time break before returning to the game.
Minutes into the second half, Alcester was awarded a penalty kick, but it was just wide of the uprights, before Jack Green scored Alcester's bonus point try, complimented by a good conversion.
Jamie Harland was next to add to the visitor's score sheet as he dodged several defenders to the line. As Lewis Wright bringing the score to 31-0. Lewis added another try for Alcester, which was converted by Tom, bringing the score to 38-0.
Burbage finally managed to get on the board with a try of their own, but the conversion was missed, bringing the final score to 38-5 in favor of Alcester. It was a hard-fought match, but in the end, Alcester was able to come out on top.
