(HT 0-0)

Alcester RFC

Woodrush 0 – 31 Alcester 1st XV

Alcester sit top of the league after winning their third consecutive game of the season, holding Woodrush to a clean sheet, 31-0 away from home on Saturday.

Winger Mark Burrell, puts Alcester ahead after ten minutes but the conversion is wide, and so is the penalty kick awarded for Woodrush holding on, ten minutes later.

Not to be deterred by the missed point scoring opportunities, Burrell doubles his sides lead and sets to be a regular on the score sheet this season with his quick footwork and accurate chip kicks. Gough adds a successful conversion, and the visitors take a 12-0 lead into the break.

Woodrush feeling the pressure as they trail in front of a home crowd, slipped up from the off in the second half as their restart kick didn’t make it the 10 metres and the packs were called into action for a scrum.

Alcester continued to apply to pressure and it was birthday boy Max Biltcliffe who added five more points to Alcester’s trickling tally.

Woodrush’s biggest opportunity came as they kicked to the corner and looked to apply pressure from there but outside centre Oscar Holland made a try-saving rip of the ball.

Things seemed to settle for the next twenty five minutes as play was back and forth but Holland broke the stalemate to score Alcester’s bonus point try and another conversion from Gough extended their lead.

Tommy Wright crashed over the line, and the added extras by Gough signalled the end of a victorious game for the red and blacks.

Next week Alcester make the journey to Herefordshire to face Bromyard, with last season’s meeting being a close affair where Alcester came out as 22-18 winners.
