Alcester 2nd XV 19 Tenbury Wells 73
Alcester slipped to a heavy defeat, despite an improved showing, against a side that were 1st XV opponents only a few seasons ago.
Alcester were able to select a stronger looking line up this week, but they were dealt a blow in the moments before kick off when Phil Birks badly twisted his ankle in the warm up and had to pull out and fellow former 1st XVer, Oscar Holland making a surprise return to action, was also forced to withdraw as he had travel problems en route, so Alcester were left with the bare 15 players.
They started brightly when Jack Green, playing his first rugby since featuring for the 1st XV in their Warwickshire Shield final win in May, powered over after 13 minutes, which Sam Fell converted.
Tenbury hit straight back from the kick off, and never looked back as they scored five converted first half tries to lead 35-7 at the break.
Alcester were dealt a blow early in the second half when Steve Green was forced off with a shoulder injury, which meant Alcester played the remainder of the game a man down.
The visitors scored two more converted tries before Alcester hit back through Jack Green again which Fell also converted, but shortly afterwards Tenbury racked up their half century of points with another try and crossed twice more to lead 68-14.
The home side kept at it, and they were rewarded with their third try and a first ever score in Alcester colours for wing Callum Breaden.
Tenbury closed the scoring out with their eleventh try and a final score of 73-19.
Debutante Lewis Duffy impressed in the second row for Alcester and was named man of the match.
Alcester travel to face Bromsgrove 3rds in a fixture between the two sides at the bottom of the league table, both looking for their first win.
Kick off at Finstall Park is 3pm.
