(HT 0-0)

Evesham RFC

Alcester 7 Evesham 57

Alcester’s difficult run continued with a comprehensive local derby defeat to Evesham on President’s Day at Kings Coughton.

Alcester have now played the top four teams in the league in consecutive weeks, which has been too much for this new and young side, at this stage of their development.

Forced into more injury and availability prompted changes, the home side were behind in the opening minutes of the game when Evesham crossed for their first try, but they made the visitors wait until the last ten minutes of the first half to add to their tally, thanks to some determined defence in the face of sustained pressure.

When Evesham scored again, it was the first of three tries in the closing minutes of the half, to lead 24-0 at the break.

With the slope at their back in the second half, Alcester needed to score early to have any realistic chance of getting back into the game, but the visitors scored the team try of the game for their fifth score, with good interchanges between forwards and backs as the home side were not able to lay a hand on them in the process.

Evesham took the score to 45-0 midway through the half, but although the game was over as contest, to their credit, Alcester kept going and they were rewarded with a try for man of the match, Jamie Clarke, which replacement full back Archie Beddard converted.

Evesham scored their eighth and ninth tries in the closing stages to run out clear winners.

Alcester now have a week off to recuperate and hopefully get some of the injured group back, before they travel to Leamington on 14th November for the resumption of the league campaign.
