Similar to their 1st XV counterparts, Alcester 2nds had to grind out a hard fought win against their opponents, in a game that was rearranged from the postponement on the original date in December.
Playing up the slope in the first half, the home side scored first through wing Scott McGhee who showed a sharp turn of pace to finish off a well worked move to set him free.
After fifteen minutes the visitors hit back to take the lead, thanks to a penalty try after one of their players was tackled off the ball, as he chased a kick ahead which was approaching the try line.
Ten minutes later, Alcester were back in front when lock Joel Barker crashed over from short range, before nearing the half an hour mark and following a good break by centre Jamie Clarke, who had a solid game throughout, an offload to fellow centre Luke Spencer, saw the skipper score the third try which he converted for a 17-7 lead.
The end-to-end nature of the game continued and after a successful penalty kick, the visitors scored their second converted try to level the scoreline at 17-17.
With half time approaching, home no 8 Louis Smith crashed through several attempted tackles on his way to the line for the bonus point score, which was the final scoring action of the half, to leave the half time score at 22-17.
Playing up the slope in the second half, the visitors started well and they scored their third try to level the scores again.
Louis Smith restored his side’s lead with his second try which skipper Luke Spencer converted, before the ever-impressive full back, Archie Beddard, raced in down the left wing to give his side a 34-22 lead and afterwards Jamie Clarke rounded the scoring off, with his side’s seventh try.
Skipper Luke Spencer nominated flanker Che Matthews as his man of the match, because of his great line out work and all-round impressive display.
Alcester 2nds are back in league action on 14th February when they visit Coventrians.
