(HT 0-0)

Old Leamingtonians RFC

Alcester signed off their 2025/6 campaign with a heavy home defeat against a much-improved visiting side, who have rallied in the second half of their season, after a very difficult start which saw them forfeit the reverse fixture on the opening day of the season.

The visitors started brightly and were three tries up in the opening quarter of the game, as the fluidity of their backline play was proving too much for the home side to contain.

Alcester were not helped by several knocks taken by players during the game on an extremely hard pitch which prompted some reshuffles, but they forced a score of their own from a powerful finish by number 8 Louis Smith.

The visitors scored twice before half time to lead 33-5 at the break.

The home side started well and the visitors were penalised for a string of infringements which eventually saw their tight head yellow carded, after the referee had totted up too many penalties at the start of the half. Alcester profited from a man advantage and Smith powered over for his second try, after the most fluent move of the game by the home side had put him into space. Archie Beddard converted the try.

Unfortunately, that was as good as it got for Alcester as the visitors scored three more times before the end to run out convincing winners.

Alcester finished in a creditable mid table position, sixth out of eleven teams, in their first season in the national league structure.
