Old Saltleians RFC

29 - 40

(HT 0-0)

Alcester RFC

Alcester avenged defeat in the reverse fixture at Kings Coughton in November, with an excellent away victory at Old Saltleians, to remain one place ahead of them, in fifth place, in the league table.

After suffering a heavy defeat at home last week, Alcester were determined to put things right on the road. They arrived low on numbers to face off against an Old Salts team that had a full bench to call on.

From the whistle, it was an error filled couple of minutes before Alcester lit the fuse and started to demonstrate what they could do.

After a huge defensive effort deep inside their own twenty two metre line, a turn over, followed by a multiphase offensive marched the home side all the way back up the pitch. Alcester had arrived in the game and the tone was now set.

Alcester scored two converted tries in the first ten minutes of the game through Pavan Sembakuttige and Freddie White, with White converting both.

With a third converted try through Sembakuttige, the game was looking comfortable for the visitors at that stage.

There was a response from the opposition who clawed one back, but before the half was up, Alcester had secured the bonus point try through another for White which he also converted.

There was a resurgence from the home side in the second half and they came out fighting. They worked hard to close the gap, but it was Alcester who managed to keep their noses in front.

A break away try from Joel Barker was met with much relief for the visitors and settled the nerves for Alcester.

The home side scored twice to pull the game back within a single score, however, in the closing chaotic minutes, it was Alcester who managed to secure the final try of the game. Freddie White bagging his third which captain Luke Spencer converted, denying the home side a losing bonus point.

This was an exceptional performance from all sixteen players on duty today. The effort and desire was evident from all. Louis Smith was outstanding in the pack, but man of the match goes to Freddie White, for his hat trick of scores and general all-round play.
