Alcester 2nd XV 0 Shipston 2nd XV 60
Alcester were comprehensively beaten by a dominant Shipston side, who scored ten tries and underlined their credentials as one of the favourites for the league this season.
Alcester’s preparations were not helped by 1st XV call ups which culminated in players playing out of position, but they were pleased to welcome back Pav Sembakuttige for his first outing of the season on the flank.
Alcester did come close to crossing the line on a couple of occasions but their efforts were thwarted by a determined and well organised Shipston defence, to end scoreless.
The home side were not helped by the loss of both half backs to injury in the first half, with fly half James Roberts, requiring hospital treatment due to nasty gash to the head.
In the end, the Shipston backs had too much quality for the home side to run out clear winners.
Alcester will be looking to bounce back with a trip to Shirley to face Camp Hill 2nds on Saturday for a 3pm kick off.
Alcester 3rds are also in action on Saturday, when they host Bromsgrove Veterans, again kicking off at 3pm.
