FRIDAY 21ST FEBRUARY 2025

Friday night lights friendly

Shipston 3rd XV 33 Alcester 3rd XV 7

Alcester’s 3rd XV were the only senior side in action this weekend and they travelled to Shipston for a Friday night fixture against a Shipston side who were much changed from the first meeting between the two sides earlier in the season which Alcester won convincingly.

The first half was fairly even, with the home side having the better of possession and territory to lead 7-0 at the break, but despite the visitors’ good start to the second half, the younger legs of the Shipston substitutes in their large squad, took the game away from Alcester, with four other tries and three more conversions.

Alcester kept going until the end and were rewarded with a consolation try in the closing stages of the game. Fly half Glyn Smith spotted Alcester players lingering on the right wing unmarked and sent an accuate cross field kick which was gathered by Alec Aucott who popped the ball off to full back Scott McGhee to race away to score. Smith converted the try.

Alcester’s 1st and 2nd XVs both return to league action next weekend. The 1st XV, now in fifth place in the league, entertain second placed, Camp Hill, whilst the 2nd XV travel to Berkswell and Balsall. Both games kick off at 3pm.
