Alcester RFC
Rugby St Andrews RFC
Alcester 2nd XV 31 - 5 Rugby St Andrews 2nds
An Alcester side featuring no fewer than eight former colts in its squad recorded their third league win of the season with a bonus point victory over Rugby St Andrews.
Before the game, both sides held a minute of silence for long-time supporter and club stalwart Derek Broughton, who recently passed away.
Alcester took the lead within 10 minutes when Noah Birks, who made his senior debut last Saturday, scored on his second-team debut. A strong finish from just inside the visitors' half, saw him power through several tackles to score under the posts. Freddie White converted.
White scored the second try, jinking his way through the defence before converting his score for a 14-0 lead.
Scrum-half, Rich Udell spoiled a Rugby attack before hacking the ball downfield. He lost the chase to the loose ball but when the visitors tried to clear, it was charged down by White who scored his second try, which left the halftime score at 19-0.
After the break, Alcester started in the ascendency and Morgan O'Dell came close to scoring their fourth try but was held up over the line.
The visitors were always a danger on the break and their left wing showed a real turn of pace to leave the Alcester defence trailing to register his side's first score.
Veteran fly-half Glyn Smith restored Alcester's advantage with their bonus point try before forward Ed Denby set off on a brilliant break up field running 50 metres before being caught in a tackle and off-loading to replacement wing, James Walker who scored Alcester's final try.
Skipper, Luke Spencer singled out the performance of Olly Saneie Khansari who impressed again after his senior debut last week, as well as Noah Birks who looked at home in the second team and made a real impact, but Freddie White was nominated as man-of-the-match.
Alcester are at home in a friendly to Camp Hill 3rds next week for a 1 pm kick-off whilst the 3rd XV are in Daventry for a 2.15 pm kick-off.
