Alcester 1st XV 17 – 30 Camp Hill 1st XV
Alcester’s winless run continued with a fifth successive defeat on President’s Day at Kings Coughton.
Camp Hill scored early but Alcester hit back through a try by Will Silk which was converted by Ed Gough.
Alcester claimed the ascendency 15 minutes in with a nice little pass back and forth between Dwayne Cruickshank and Owen Binns on the wing which set Cruickshank free to score Alcester’s second.
With the slope at their back, the visitors scored their second try in the corner to narrow the scoreline to 12-10. They started to get on top and after coming close to scoring again, they finally took the lead on the half hour mark with their third try which was converted making the score 12-17.
A few minutes later, Alcester were caught sleeping at the break down and the Camp Hill fly half picked up and darted through the middle of the defence to score under the posts and increase their lead with a converted try.
Alcester were dealt a blow early in the second half when Silk was sin binned for what the referee adjudged to be a dangerous tackle but when they had their full contingence restored, a great break from Lewis Wright gained territory up field before the ball made it to Binns to score the home side’s third try to make it 17-24.
It was then the visitors turn to play with reduced numbers when one of the Camp Hill players was yellow carded for tackling the scrum half off the ball and he was quickly followed to the bin by one of their props for consecutive penalties at the scrum.
To the visitors’ credit, they defended the period where they were down to 13 men incredibly well. In to the last ten minutes of the game, Alcester were permanently reduced to 14 men due to a red card and Camp Hill kicked the resulting penalty and another to close the game out.
Alcester will hope to return to winning ways when they host Barkers Butts on Saturday with a 3pm kick off.
