Alcester RFC

27 - 7

(HT 0-0)

Droitwich RFC
Alcester 27 - 7 Droitwich
Alcester had a weekend to celebrate as their first team got back to winning ways and the club were able to field three senior sides for the first time in over twenty years.
Alcester scored with their first move of the game when they sent play side to side through the hands and eventually sent winger Owen Binns free who finished smartly.
The home side increased their lead halfway through the half when Ed Gough kicked a penalty in front of the posts.
Rather than build on their lead, Alcester struggled to maintain momentum and with their forwards on top and after a period of sustained pressure Droitwich finally got themselves on the scoreboard with a converted try.
In the closing stages of the half, Alcester regained some fluidity in their play and after a nice exchange of passes between Dwayne Cruickshank and Binns, play moved upfield before Oscar Holland crossed for the second try which Gough converted.
This was the final score of the half to leave Alcester leading 15-7 at the break.
The opening exchanges of the second half were very evenly fought albeit somewhat scrappy with both teams struggling for any momentum.
The game entered a phase where it became clear that the next score would be crucial and to Alcester's relief that came from Cruickshank who crossed for Alcester's third try.
Shortly afterwards a trademark Jack Green powerful run saw off several defenders to score under the posts and secure the home side's bonus point try.
There were no further scores in the game but in the closing stages, tempers boiled over and Alcester's Sam Lear was singled out by the referee and shown a yellow card.
This victory cemented Alcester's second place in the league before they travel to local rivals Evesham next week.
