Struggling for numbers and having to hunt down a ref at short notice, Bromyard bent over backwards to honour this fixture, for which Alcester were very grateful.
After a long break due to the recent wet weather, it took Alcester some time to settle into a rhythm, but after early pressure from Bromyard, settle they did. Full back Will Fairweather opened the scoring after Alcester broke out of its 22. On his return from injury Harry Bonner added another and before half time James Lester added two more, with both centres enjoying good distribution and space out wide. Josh Williams, captain for the day, converted all 4 tries and Alcester led 28-0 at the break.
The second half saw much of the same, with the forwards working hard through early phases, bossing the set piece and linking superbly with the backs as they had done in the first half.
Toby Birks opened the scoring in the second half with a dart down the blind side of a ruck, running 40m to touch down in the corner. Tries by winger James Lampitt, Josh Williams and another from Harry Bonner added to the score. A final try by prop Gero McKeown and a seventh successful conversion by Josh Williams brought an end to a very good day at the office.
There will be tougher opponents over coming weeks, but a great performance from all, typified by the energy and commitment shown by Player of the Match, James Lester.
Thank you to Charlie Rose who agreed to pull on the Bromyard shirt when they were short of numbers.
We welcome Telford at home this Sunday 21st Jan 2pm K.O..
