Players and supporters set off early by coach for the long trip to Oswestry on Sunday in confident mood. That confidence was rewarded with an early try from Toby Birks converted by Josh Williams, taking the visitors into an early lead which they were to hold onto throughout the match.
At half time Alcester led by 17 points to 7 following tries from captain Harry Williams and James Walker, but in pouring rain, Oswestry fought back early in the second half, scoring their second try of the match. Both sides kicked penalties to bring the score to 20-15 mid way through the half.
As the heavy rain continued, injuries bought about non contested scrums and an injury to Alcester scrum half Rich Udall, meant the backs had to reorganise, while the forwards made the most of the conditions by retaining possession to move through the phases and into the opposition 22.
Now firmly in the hosts 22, the ball was moved quickly and Josh Williams crossed unopposed, converting his own try taking Alcester to 27 and another bonus point win on the road leaving them third and looking forward to their next match, away to table leaders Old Halesonians.
Strong performances all round, especially in the pack with special mentions for Toby Birks and to full back Will Fairweather. Player of the match was prop Gero McKeown who was physical and destructive all afternoon. Congratulations to Alfie Withers on his Club debut.
Thanks to everyone who travelled to support. It was a fun day out. On we go.
