Alcester Colts 35 vs 10 Burntwood Colts

A glorious day, and ideal conditions for running rugby made for another highly entertaining match. An early try and conversion by Josh Williams saw the home side make an immediate statement. This was followed by a try from scrum half Rich Udall, darting down the blind side left open by visitors struggling with the pace of the home team backs. Ahead 14-5 at the break, Alcester defended heroically around the breakdown in the second half, patiently waiting for opportunities, with hooker Ed Denby pouncing, showing his own pace to run in a third try.

James Lester secured the bonus point mid way through the second half, and deciding not to go for three points the fifth try was scored by the rampaging Gero McKeown. Josh Williams again slotted the extras taking his personal match tally to 15.

Notable performances from all the forwards, particularly Ed Denby and Toby Birks helped build a strong platform, but Player of the Match went to the ever-improving Josh Hull at blindside who contributed with a powerful performance in defence and attack.

The result leaves Alcester Colts level with Old Hales on 16 points, trailing Upton at the top of the table. Thanks again to the terrific home supporters, our extra man.
