Telford Hornets 17-29 Alcester Colts.
Alcester travelled to league leaders Telford Hornets and starting strongly with four quick tries through Udall, Lester(2) and Lampitt, securing the bonus point well before half time.
Two last man cover tackles by full back Josh Williams and some superb defence by Alcester on their own line just before half time denied Telford, as the visitors protected a twenty two point to nil lead going into the break.
As the rain continued to fall in the second half, Alcester lost some shape and Telford fought back scoring two quick tries early in the half. As the penalties against Alcester started to add up, the frustration was clear to see, but not wanting to lose their lead, or allow the hosts the chance of a losing bonus point, the focus returned and Alcester reimposed their dominance at the breakdown.
A late try by Magnall secured a lead that was too much for Telford to claw back, despite scoring the final try in the dying seconds of the match.
The final whistle was in the end welcome, and Alcester deserved the applause for a bonus point win on the road. Player of the Match was Che Mathews, after probably his best game in an Alcester shirt. His commitment and speed at the breakdown was very impressive, securing a high number of turn overs and turning defence into attack.
A big Thank you to everyone who traveled to support.
