Bromyard RFC
Alcester RFC
The Colts travelled to Bromyard today and what a game it would be. With only 16 available players it would be tough day.
From the kick off both teams played with passion and maximum effort, which threatened to boil over on a couple of occasions but made for a nail biter game.
Through some well controlled phase play the opposition were the first to cross the whitewash for an unconverted try but surprisingly this jolted the lads into action.
The lads lifted their game and were quickly rewarded with a crash over try, in the corner, by Toby Birks to level the scores.
From here the game ebbed and flowed with fiercely competed break downs and monster tackles from both sides but with no further score half time saw the teams locked at 5-5.
The lads needed no Pavan pep talk to raise their game, in fact we had to call for cool heads and focus.
The second half started where the first left off and neither team were letting up or giving an inch however a penalty in kicking range was punished by Freddie White to put Alcester 5-8 up, which is how it stayed, with both teams doing their respective club proud.
With 45 seconds left it looked like Alcester would see the game out but a miss judged drop kick saw us pegged back and under pressure. Wave after wave of Bromyard attacks came and the lads defended like demons, repelling every effort however the opposition recycled the ball for many phases and were rewarded 2 minutes into added time with their second try, which was converted to close the game out 12-8.
It was an amazing game to watch and although the result didn't go our way, the lads deserved heaped praise for how they committed themselves, never giving up.
We look forward to next week when we host Malvern.
Result: Bromyard 12 Alcester 8
Man of the match: Riley Williams
